David Lloyd OBE joined the Middle East Association in April 2001, retiring from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office after 35 years. A graduate of the Middle East Centre for Arab Studies in 1970, subsequent regional postings included Kuwait; Desk Officer Syria and Jordan at the FCO in London; and Saudi Arabia as Head of the British Trade Office from 1988-93. His last posting was as HM Ambassador to Slovenia.
David looks after Saudi Arabia and Northern Iraq (Kurdistan Region), taking two trade missions a year to each market. He has introduced some 150 SMEs to the Saudi market and masterminds Opportunity Arabia, the MEA’s prestigious annual one day Seminar on the kingdom, which is now entering its ninth year. He has also been very active in promoting the extensive business opportunities in Kurdistan Region and helping to establish a significant UK presence at the annual Erbil International Trade Fair.
