4th City & GCC Conference
25/06/2009
Last year’s successful conference brought together over 250 representatives from the Gulf and the City. This year, delegates will be meeting against the backdrop of the global economic downturn when the financial sector faces unprecedented uncertainty and needs to identify new and surer regulatory and business models. They will hear, and have the opportunity to question, the views of senior government and private sector representatives from the UK and the Gulf on the lessons learned from the financial crisis. But events have underlined the constant need for (and the benefits of) close co-operation between GCC financial centres and the City.
The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Ian Luder, has kindly agreed to give the Opening Address at the Conference. Other keynote speakers and panelists who have confirmed their intention to participate are listed in the attached programme. The event website at www.cityandgcc.com will list further speakers as they agree to join the programme. On the day, they will debate:
-
Regulatory and risk management lessons from the global credit crunch;
-
GCC economies during the global downturn – funding future growth;
-
Development of financial sector skills – partnership opportunities;
-
Conventional and Islamic finance and insurance – essential aids to navigating economic turbulence.
As in previous years, the conference will provide an excellent opportunity for high-level networking with speakers, panellists and fellow delegates. The thriving economies of the Gulf and their developing financial centres continue to offer strong opportunities for City of London and GCC cooperation.
